Allstate Car Insurance Discounts: Full List, Drivewise, Milewise, State Caveats
Short answer
Allstate organizes auto discounts across seven practical groups: driving history, policy structure, vehicle equipment, enrollment behavior, payment method, education, and telematics (Drivewise). The structurally largest discounts for most Allstate drivers are Multi-Policy bundling, Multi-Vehicle, Safe Driver, Early Signing, and Pay in Full. Allstate also files Drivewise as a two-part telematics program (participation plus performance) and Milewise as a separate pay-per-mile product in filing states. Allstate publishes discount availability on its auto discounts page but does not uniformly publish fixed percentage caps because applied amounts are state-filed.1
What actually determines whether an Allstate discount applies to you
- State. Allstate files discount availability and amounts state by state. Drivewise operates on different mechanics in California under the Proposition 103 framework, and Milewise is a filed product in a subset of states only234.
- Documentation. Smart Student needs a transcript, GPA letter, or teenSMART completion certificate. Resident Student needs proof of enrollment at least 100 miles from the garaged vehicle. Anti-theft needs a VIN etch certificate or vehicle option code.
- Enrollment timing. Early Signing requires signing the new Allstate policy at least seven days before the prior carrier policy expires. Missing the window forfeits the discount for the term.
- Payment behavior. Responsible Payer requires twelve consecutive months of on-time payments. A single reinstatement or late payment resets the clock.
- Stacking. Discounts apply multiplicatively on the Allstate rating engine, so the combined savings is always smaller than the sum of individual discount percentages.
The Allstate discount list
The table below groups Allstate’s named auto discounts by category and lists the eligibility rule for each. Allstate publishes discount availability on its auto discounts page but files specific percentages state by state, so the published-cap column reflects Allstate’s own language rather than a national guaranteed number1.
| Discount | Category | Eligibility | Published cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-Policy (bundling) | Policy structure | Allstate auto plus an Allstate home, condo, renters, or life policy on the same account. | Varies by state |
| Multi-Vehicle | Policy structure | Two or more vehicles insured on the same Allstate auto policy. | Varies by state |
| Safe Driver | Driving history | No at-fault accidents or major violations within a filed look-back period (commonly three to five years, state-dependent). | Varies by state |
| Early Signing | Enrollment | Signing a new Allstate policy at least seven days before the current carrier policy expires. | Varies by state |
| New Car | Vehicle | Insuring a vehicle of the current or two prior model years that has not been previously titled. | Varies by state |
| Anti-theft | Vehicle | Vehicle equipped with a passive or active anti-theft device (alarm, VIN etching, or factory immobilizer). | Varies by state |
| Anti-lock Brake | Vehicle | Vehicle equipped with factory anti-lock brakes. Mandatory discount in some states by filing. | Varies by state |
| Allstate eSmart (Paperless) | Enrollment | Opting in to electronic delivery of policy documents and billing statements. | Varies by state |
| Automatic Payment | Payment method | Enrolling in recurring automatic payment from a bank account or card. | Varies by state |
| Pay in Full | Payment method | Paying the full six-month policy premium at bind rather than monthly installments. | Varies by state |
| FullPay (annual) | Payment method | Paying a full twelve-month term in advance where Allstate files an annual-term product. | Varies by state |
| Smart Student | Education | Unmarried student driver under 25 who maintains a B average, 3.0 GPA, or equivalent, or has completed teenSMART driver education. | Varies by state |
| Resident Student | Education | Student listed on a parent policy who attends school more than 100 miles from the garaged vehicle and does not take the vehicle to school. | Varies by state |
| Responsible Payer | Payment method | Twelve consecutive months without a late payment, cancellation for non-payment, or reinstatement on the Allstate policy. | Varies by state |
| Drivewise (participation) | Driving behavior (telematics) | Enrolled in Drivewise through the Allstate mobile app at the start of a policy. Participation discount applies at enrollment. | Varies by state |
| Drivewise (performance) | Driving behavior (telematics) | Measured safe driving over Drivewise reward intervals produces a performance discount applied at renewal. See the Drivewise deep dive. | Varies by state |
| Milewise (pay-per-mile) | Rating product | Low-mileage drivers who elect the Milewise per-mile product in filing states. Not a discount but a separate rating product. | Not a discount |
Drivewise: two-part telematics
Drivewise is Allstate’s mobile-app telematics program. It behaves differently from the fixed discounts in the list above because it has two separate components:
- Participation discount. Applied at Drivewise enrollment to drivers who activate the Allstate mobile app and begin trip monitoring. The participation amount is state-filed and applied at the policy term in which enrollment occurs2.
- Performance discount. Applied at renewal based on measured driving behavior over the review period. Allstate measures hard braking, speeds above a filed threshold, late-night driving, and mileage. Measured safe driving produces a performance discount; the exact applied percentage is state-filed and renewal-anchored.
Drivewise mechanics, measured factors, state availability (including the California carve-out), and fit criteria are covered in detail in our Allstate Drivewise explainer. For the broader category view of app-based telematics, see our telematics discounts hub.
Milewise: a separate rating product, not a discount
Milewise is Allstate’s pay-per-mile auto product. It is structurally distinct from Drivewise: Milewise is a different rating product rather than a discount applied to a standard policy. Drivers pay a daily base rate plus a per-mile charge, which Allstate meters through a connected device or the Milewise mobile app3.
Milewise is a filed product and is not available in every state. In California, Milewise and other usage-based rating products operate within the Proposition 103 framework, which restricts the use of real-time driving-behavior data in personal auto rating4.
Milewise tends to fit low-mileage households that drive well under 10,000 miles a year. It tends not to fit high-mileage commuters, rideshare drivers, or households with routine long-distance travel.
Where specific discounts have deeper mechanics
- Multi-Policy bundling. Allstate’s bundle discount applies when an auto policy sits on the same account as an Allstate home, condo, renters, or life policy. The bundle is filed as a single percentage applied to the auto side; realistic bundle savings depend on both base rates in your market.
- Safe Driver. Allstate files Safe Driver as a clean-record discount with a state-specific look- back window (commonly three to five years). An at-fault accident or major violation inside the window disqualifies the discount until the record ages off.
- Early Signing. This is a one-time transitional discount for drivers switching carriers at term boundary. The seven-day advance signing rule is strict; it rewards drivers who shop ahead rather than waiting until the current policy lapses.
- Smart Student / Resident Student. Allstate’s student discount structure covers two distinct scenarios: an in-household student maintaining a B average or equivalent, and a listed student who attends school at a distance without regular access to the insured vehicle. The two can’t generally stack on the same student.
- Responsible Payer. This is an unusual discount in the U.S. market because it rewards sustained on-time billing rather than a vehicle, driver, or coverage attribute. The twelve-month clean payment requirement is a hard reset on reinstatement.
- Anti-theft and Anti-lock Brake. Allstate files these as vehicle-equipment discounts. Several states mandate these discounts by regulatory filing, so they apply by default in those jurisdictions.
State caveats and the California carve-out
Three state-level caveats matter when reading Allstate discounts in your quote:
- California. California insurance law under the Proposition 103 framework restricts the use of real-time telematics data in setting personal auto premiums. Drivewise operates on a different mechanic in California than in other states, and Milewise is subject to the same rating constraints4.
- Filed amounts vary. Allstate files discount percentages per state. The same named discount can apply at different percentages depending on where the policy is rated; the quote tool applies filed amounts automatically.
- Participating-state only. Several discount lines, including Milewise and some telematics features, are participating-state only. Allstate’s discount page is the authoritative source for current availability1.
How Allstate discounts interact with your actual quote
Three things matter in practice:
- Discounts stack multiplicatively, not additively. A policy with four discounts of 10%, 10%, 15%, and 20% does not come out at 55% off; the combined effective discount after multiplicative stacking is roughly 45%.
- Drivewise is two-step, not one-step. The participation discount applies at enrollment but the performance discount is renewal-anchored. The quote you see at bind reflects the participation side; the performance side shows up at the next renewal.
- Milewise is a separate product decision. Choosing Milewise means switching the rating mechanic from a standard policy to pay-per-mile. The discount list in this page largely does not apply the same way to Milewise; see Allstate’s Milewise page for the product-specific rules3.

What to actually do with this list
- Audit your current Allstate policy against the list. If you moved, bought a home, bundled renters, added a student driver, or started paying semi- annually in full, you may have earned a discount Allstate has not applied.
- Decide whether Drivewise is worth enrolling. See the Drivewise explainer for measured factors and fit criteria. For a peer comparison, see Progressive Snapshot and State Farm Drive Safe & Save.
- Evaluate Milewise if your household is low-mileage. Milewise is a different product, not a discount. If your household drives well under 10,000 miles a year and lives in a filing state, Milewise can beat a standard-rated Allstate policy.
- Compare the final Allstate quote with competitors. A heavily-discounted Allstate policy can still sit above a competitor’s base price. See our cheapest car insurance shortlist for the comparison set.

Common follow-up questions
How much do Allstate bundle discounts actually save?
Allstate publishes bundle availability but files the percentage state by state. The practical bundle savings versus two unbundled policies depends on both base rates and on homeowners / renters pricing in your market. Compare the bundled quote against standalone quotes before assuming the bundle is cheaper1.
Is Drivewise a two-way discount like Snapshot?
Drivewise is structured as a participation plus performance discount. Allstate’s Drivewise product page positions the performance side as a discount at renewal rather than a potential surcharge. See the Drivewise explainer for mechanics and the current program disclosures2.
Can I combine Milewise with regular Allstate discounts?
Milewise is a separate rating product rather than a discount on a standard policy. Several standard-policy discounts do not apply the same way on Milewise. See Allstate’s Milewise product page for the product-specific discount list3.
Does Allstate have a military discount?
Allstate files affiliation-based discounts in some states but not a carrier-wide named military discount equivalent to GEICO’s military program. For a dedicated military-focused comparison, see our best car insurance for military shortlist.
