Best Car Insurance for First Responders and Teachers

By YesWeSure EditorialReviewed October 3, 2026Editorial standardsReport an errorSources

First responders and K-12 educators have access to profession-affiliated carriers that non-eligible shoppers cannot buy. California Casualty is the clearest fit in its 7-state footprint and ships profession-specific endorsements (educator fundraising coverage, firefighter turnout gear, peace-officer survivor benefit) that no mainstream carrier matches line-for-line. Outside that footprint, USAA (if military-eligible) and GEICO's federal/state employee discount are the honest fallbacks. Horace Mann (not yet in our review set) is a national educator-focused mutual worth getting a quote from.

Profession-specific endorsements that matter

  • Educator fundraising supplies and parked-at-school coverage: California Casualty's Educator Insurance Benefits waives the comprehensive deductible when a vehicle is parked on school grounds. $500 covers fundraising supplies in the vehicle.
  • Firefighter turnout gear: California Casualty covers up to $1,000 of personal protective gear left in the vehicle when it's stolen or damaged in a covered loss.
  • Peace-officer fallen-hero survivor benefit: California Casualty pays a $5,000 benefit to the designated beneficiary of a peace officer killed in the line of duty while the auto policy was in force.
  • Federal / state employee discount: GEICO up to 15 percent for most public-sector employees in most states.
